Welcome to BeatCast. We take the protection of your personal information seriously and comply with applicable laws and regulations. Please read this privacy policy carefully before using the app.
1. Personal Information We Collect
Following the principles of legality, legitimacy, and necessity, we only collect personal information essential for the app's core functionality:
| Information Type | Details | Purpose | Usage Scenario | Required |
| Health Data |
Heart rate data (read via Apple HealthKit) |
Obtain real-time heart rate and broadcast to paired cycling computers |
When user starts heart rate broadcasting |
Yes |
| Bluetooth Information |
Bluetooth connection status |
Broadcast heart rate data to cycling computers via BLE |
When user taps "Start Broadcasting" |
Yes |
| User Settings Data |
Age and resting heart rate (entered by user in Settings) |
Calculate personalized heart rate zones based on Karvonen formula for display (Dynamic Island, Lock Screen, main dial, Watch) |
When user enters heart rate zone parameters in Settings |
No |
Note: Age and resting heart rate are entered voluntarily by the user and stored only locally on the device (iOS UserDefaults). They are used to calculate personalized heart rate zones within the app (such as zone bars on Dynamic Island, Lock Screen, and Watch). This data is never uploaded to any server. When not provided, fixed BPM thresholds are used instead, which does not affect core functionality.
Information We Do Not Collect
- No personal identity information (name, ID number, phone number, etc.)
- No location information
- No device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV, etc.)
- No data is uploaded to any server
- No network access records or usage behavior data
System Permission Requests
To provide the heart rate broadcasting feature, this app requires the following system permissions. All permissions are requested at first use, and you can disable them in system settings at any time.
| Permission | Purpose | When Requested | Required |
| Health Data (HealthKit heart rate reading) |
Read Apple Watch heart rate sensor data for broadcasting and display |
On Watch when first starting heart rate broadcasting |
Yes |
| Bluetooth (BLE broadcasting) |
Broadcast heart rate data to paired cycling computers |
When tapping "Start Broadcasting" |
Yes (Direct Watch mode) |
| Workout |
Enables more stable heart rate collection, keeps Watch running in background, prevents auto-stop |
On Watch when first starting heart rate broadcasting |
Yes |
| Network Access |
Fetch the latest privacy policy and dual-list content |
When displaying privacy popup on app launch |
No (displays cached local version) |
Permission Management: You can manage the above permissions in system settings at any time:
- Health Data: iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → BeatCast
- Bluetooth: iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth
- Workout: Apple Watch Settings → Health → Fitness
Disabling a permission will prevent the corresponding feature from working, but other features remain unaffected.
About Workout Permission: This app requests "Workout" write permission on Apple Watch to create a Workout Session, which keeps the Watch continuously collecting heart rate data in the background. This is essential for the broadcasting feature, as heart rate collection would otherwise stop when the Watch screen locks or the wrist is lowered. This process does not save any workout records, calories burned, or other exercise data in the Apple Health app — it is solely used to maintain the heart rate data stream.
2. Storage of Personal Information
Local Storage Principle: All data in this app is processed and stored locally on your device. No data is uploaded to or stored on any cloud server. Specifically:
- Heart rate data: Read in real-time from Apple HealthKit, used only in memory, not persistently stored
- Bluetooth broadcasting: Used only during broadcasting, released immediately when stopped
- User settings (age, resting heart rate): Stored only in device UserDefaults, never uploaded
- Communication between Apple Watch and iPhone: Via the system WatchConnectivity framework, data is transmitted only between paired devices
Storage Security: All local data is protected by iOS/watchOS system-level security mechanisms (data encryption, sandbox isolation).
Data Retention Period:
- Heart rate data: Used only in memory during broadcasting, not persistently stored, no retention period
- Age and resting heart rate (user settings): Retained until user modifies or uninstalls the app
- User feedback/customer service records: Retained for up to 6 months after resolution, then deleted or anonymized
- BLE broadcast data: Transmitted in real-time only during broadcasting, not stored
3. Use of Personal Information
We only use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:
- Reading heart rate data via Apple HealthKit for BLE broadcasting
- Broadcasting heart rate data to paired cycling computers via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)
- Syncing heart rate display between Apple Watch and iPhone via WatchConnectivity
- Calculating and displaying personalized heart rate zones using user-provided age and resting heart rate
We will not use your personal information for any purpose beyond those described above.
4. Sharing, Transfer, and Public Disclosure of Personal Information
We commit to:
- Not sharing or transferring your personal information to any third party
- Not publicly disclosing your personal information
- Not integrating any third-party data analytics or advertising SDKs
Data is only transmitted between devices in the following scenarios:
| Recipient | Data Content | Purpose | Method |
| Paired cycling computer |
Heart rate value |
Real-time heart rate display |
BLE broadcast (standard heart rate service 0x180D) |
| Paired iPhone |
Heart rate value, broadcast status |
Display heart rate on iPhone |
WatchConnectivity (system encrypted channel) |

7. Personal Information Security Protection Measures
We attach great importance to the security of your personal information and have taken the following measures to protect your data:
- Local Processing: All data is processed locally on the device, with no network transmission (BLE broadcast only transmits heart rate values, no personal identity information)
- System Encryption: Leveraging iOS/watchOS system-level sandbox isolation, file encryption, and keychain protection for data security
- Hardware Isolation: BLE broadcast heart rate data contains no personally identifiable information; WatchConnectivity communication is protected by Apple's system-level end-to-end encryption
- Access Control: Heart rate data is only used when the user actively starts broadcasting and is released immediately upon stopping; user settings data is stored only in the app's private sandbox, inaccessible to other apps
- Security Assessment: We conduct regular security audits of the app to promptly address potential vulnerabilities
